God On Trial
If God/faith/religion are of any concern to you, you should watch this movie. Whatever you think it’s going to be, it’s not. One of the most deeply affecting films I’ve seen in ages.
Dude, seriously.

I hate children, and this is still awesome.
Source: childsown.wordpress.comI’ve been thinking a lot lately about the wonders I’m missing since I’ve kind of lost my childlike sensibilities about the world and humanity in recent years.
You see, I was riding along on a motorized bike (yes, a moped. But a brand new, top of the line one at least) while working on a film, and happened to be within striking distance of a young drunk driver trying to get on the highway at break-neck speed. No pun intended.
Next thing I know, I’m searching for the other pieces of my helmet in the middle of a busy LA street and scrambling for my house keys that were still in the ignition of the front section of my bike. Which was not near me at the time. Fast forward a couple years beyond physical therapy and I’m sitting at a computer, jaded that the world has forsaken me and after a string of bad luck (we’ll cover more of this in other posts) since originally coming to LA from the midwest about 6 years ago.
That kind of history will leave one feeling a little more than tattered. Which brings me to my main point. In my entrepreneurial spirit I’ve had many ideas for businesses I thought were able to bridge the gap between making quality, meaningful pieces of art- with a profitable business that isn’t just taking as much money as we can from people with living, breathing, hearts.
And over the years I’d say I’ve had some good ideas that just needed a little startup funding. And of course there were ideas I have been uber-passionate about that I’m thankful I never scraped the funding around for because they’d have been hideous disasters like Paula Abdul the later years, or continuing Two And A Half Men after Charlie Sheen started Winning so furiously. But one of them was this. And I’m more than happy to see that someone is out there doing it well.
Some people got together and made Child’s Own Studio, a business that takes submissions of children’s drawings, and makes them as real as you possibly can without the help of a giant lightning bolt, and one of those table from Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory.
I’m a big fan of dreams, because I have a lot of them, in the literal and figurative sense. But to bring to life something that you can only dream of, and be able to see it in front of you, hold it, hug it, even if you didn’t make it yourself, is amazing.
Especially if you’re a kid.
